The animation is based on how I came up with the design. The figure in the corner IS Constant Nieuwenhuys. The smoke represents how an idea (for me) is created; at first, the idea is weak, but as the smoke becomes more concentrated, the idea becomes stronger. The painting (New Babylon) begins to flow into the animation and is later overlaid with lines which represents the lines that I drew (based on the lines I found/saw in the painting). The plan begins to show up and is followed by the axo; where the construction lines are somewhat related to the lines from the lines of the plan. As the animation finishes, a lightbulb begins to blink, relating to the idea of an idea coming and going (not set in stone)... yea thats it. . .
The initial concept for the "unit" derived from outlining and breaking down Constant Nieuwenhuys' New Babylon painting. A series of instrumental lines overlaid the painting to create connections and linkages; which I interpreted as spatial relations generated from simple straight lines.
Continuing with the idea of lines, I began to focus mainly on instrumental drawings and exploring how lines can act indicate details of the design and also, how they can act as connections between drawings and components. This leads to the axo, where construction lines become the main importance in the drawing because they relate and bring together all the components of the unit (roof, walls, floor etc.).
