The GROTESQUE(???)

The Portrait of the Grotesque Institution

Here is my poster design for "The GROTESQUE Institution". The building/architecture is featured in the Clock Tower. I have blended out the bottom half of my "model's" body and made the figure slightly transparent to portray the idea of a ghost roaming the corridors/ halls of the institute, the scary and unexpected encounters that many of us might have experienced during our "night-owl" hours in the studio days before our daunting crits. (the hand is chopped off as well)

HOPE YOU ENJOY!!!

THE FINAL PRESENTATION

For my first project of semester two, our group was designated to the "3D printer" as our medium; hence, we had to develop our understanding and experience of computer softwares such as "Rhino" "SketchUp" and "3Ds MAX".

My idea derived from the cube form from the ICARUS AND DAEDALUS project in semester one. The reason behind using the same form was because I found the joint area of the cube quite interesting and I wanted to keep experimenting with possibilities.

The project "TRASHCAN" identifies itself with file cabinets; where you could place your junk/folders and be able to seek them at a later date. In my opinion, my JUNK is considered to be previous ideas (used or rejected), research, influences, sketches, etc...

With the final TRASHCAN that I have created, I have written, stuck onto, or sketched on the so-called JUNK; with each individual cube representing ONE idea/JUNK. The cubes are placed together by magnets. The lines on the cubes are all black and white as the theme for this semester was MEDIEVAL CARNIVAL; hence I chose not to incorporate hues as it would cause some sort of hierarchy (order within imbalance of society). The lines represents a network system of ideas and how ideas link or are not similar. When lines meet, the ideas are shared or transferred; when they are not, then the ideas stay in their individual cubes.

I quite like the idea of this TRASHCAN design as it allows me to take apart, grow, take apart, grow, and so on and so on. It shows a working process whereby ideas can be organised within an organic form.

THANK YOU!!!
